I’m Jamie LaFave, a drummer from Escanaba, Michigan. I’ve been behind the kit for 38 years and teaching for 30. My journey started at 12 with drum lessons inspired by Elvis Presley’s drummer Ronnie Tutt—and I’ve never stopped.

Metal is my heartbeat, with influences from Metallica, Dream Theater, Slayer, Korn, Slipknot, Lamb of God, and countless others. Double bass drumming became my signature sound, shaped by legends like Mike Portnoy, Joey Jordison, Dave Lombardo, and Tommy Aldridge.

I’ve played in countless bands, recorded, toured, and mastered styles ranging from rock and prog to blues, country, and jazz. My drumming has been featured in DRUM! Magazine and Modern Drummer, plus I’ve shared tips on drum radio and appeared on Metal Meltdown with Dave Softee.

I’m endorsed by Diemondstar Drumsticks and play Yamaha drums, TAMA Iron Cobra pedals, Evans heads, and ROC N Soc thrones. Along with private lessons at Jim’s Music and online, I run drum clinics across MI, WI, MN, and Chicago.

Right now, I’m looking to join a pro signed metal band—ready to record, tour, and bring my drumming to the masses.
